38,841 commuter's used Dubai Metro on Sunday

More than 38,000 passengers travelled on Dubai's new metro system on Sunday, transport chiefs have announced.

Statistics from the Roads and Transport Authority's Rail Agency revealed that a total of 38,841 passengers used the service on the fourth day since it launched.

Peyman Younes Parham, director of RTA's marketing and corporate communication said: "We are proud that this was achieved in one day only. It is evidence that the public transport is thriving through the latest and best mass transit of Dubai (My City My Metro) to implement RTA's vision of 'Safe and Smooth Transport for all'."

The figure was down on previous figures given for Thursday and Friday when 67,000 and 47,000 passengers respectively used the rail system.

Parham said the metro experienced a "technical default" that affected the gates "for a very short time" and was soon fixed.
