The Dubai Metro will run additional trains to address an expected rise in the number of passengers travelling during the Eid holidays, according to a report.
An official representing the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) told the Gulf News daily that at least three extra trains will be deployed during the holidays to accommodate the maximum number of passengers.
"We are currently operating 11 trains but the number of trains will be increased to 14 during Eid holidays," the official said. But he added that there would be no change to the regular operating timings of the Metro.
Speaking to Gulf News, Ramadan Abdullah, director of the RTA's Metro Operations Department, said special arrangements have been made to tackle a heavy rush on the Dubai Metro during the holiday. A large number of visitors from other emirates and neighbouring GCC countries are expected to take a ride on the Dubai Metro during the holidays, he added.
"We have given special training to the staff and security officials for crowd handling [duties] and have also deputed extra staff to guide and instruct the Metro passengers," he added.
The official said that in addition to plying extra buses, the RTA would employ extra staff to assist passengers at customer service centres, ticket counters and near ticket-vending machines.
A total of 366,968 passengers took a ride on Dubai Metro in its first week of operation, figures by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) show.
